AI & SOCIETY
The rapid rise of generative AI presents both opportunities and challenges for science and society. The work featured below explores how these technologies impact core academic values such as transparency, accountability, and trust. A central focus lies in developing practical, researcher-led guidelines to support the responsible use of AI tools in research and publishing and understanding how AI is shaping societal norms and access to knowledge.
International Summit on the Use of AI in Science
International summits at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Amsterdam have gathered experts in generative AI, computer science, and the psychological and social implications of AI to explore its role in research and society. Fundamentals of living guidelines for AI use in research, developed from these discussions, were published in Nature and can be accessed here. Additionally, five key priorities for ChatGPT in research are detailed here.
